I cried a few times and bought it hook, line and sinker.

Whereas Ratatouille strained disbelief on many occasions, like with the marionette-by-hair thing and also some tired old sitcom cliches such as the Chef thinking he's seeing things with the rat.

What was the third one again?saltyChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12095951406347341384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27501132.post-45119649828697004802008-01-27T21:41:00.000-05:002008-01-27T21:41:00.000-05:00I've only seen a couple of the nominated shorts as...I've only seen a couple of the nominated shorts as well, but all of the features. Though I enjoyed Ratatouille I find it to be one of Pixar's weakest. Beautiful animation, loveable characters, fantastic visuals, even a great idea... but somewhere along the line the chain of events got jumbled and cluttered and felt like they were just rushing to conclude everything, like a shopping list. But maybe that's just me. All this to say, my vote definitely goes to Persepolis. What a wonderful film.Alliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14099041213220261938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27501132.post-86314377010074895092008-01-23T14:12:00.000-05:002008-01-23T14:12:00.000-05:00I'm definitely rooting for "Peter and the Wolf". Conspicuous by their absence: "Shrek the Third" and "Beowulf". Good to see the Academy members had better taste this year.Pete Emsliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01451607722482352366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27501132.post-83054986986684581932008-01-22T16:32:00.000-05:002008-01-22T16:32:00.000-05:00Re: the shorts list-The Goofy short--which I final...Re: the shorts list-
The Goofy short--which I finally saw!--really should have been nominated.
I found a couple of the best-known of the nominees that are there very beautiful to look at and obviously painstakingly done in terms of technique, but ultimately too long and (to me) unmoving. In any case, my eyebrows were hitting the roof that the Goof short wasn't chosen. It's tops in all departments.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27501132.post-7696222463973549882008-01-22T15:09:00.000-05:002008-01-22T15:09:00.000-05:00"The preference is for the pedantic" - I agree! I do hope that PERSEPOLIS wins, but I would expect Hollywood to vote for their own.
As for the shorts, it was a surprise to see THE PEARCE SISTERS not among the nominees. I would have liked to see one of the living masters, Georges Schwizgebel get a nomination for JEU, but it's too abstract for the members. The preference is for the pedantic as in MY LOVE.
For some reason my heart isn't in it this year.Michael Spornhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02018522723674960270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27501132.post-36768536845752305042008-01-22T11:28:00.000-05:002008-01-22T11:28:00.000-05:00I sincerely too hope that Persepolis will wins for...I sincerely too hope that Persepolis will wins for best animated feature.
