To be honest, I actually quite like the caricatures of both Moe and Larry, though I think Curly needs work. Unfortunately, the execution of the illustration feels like an amateurish digital hack job, and the logo as a whole looks patched together without regard for composition. Welcome to the world of Photoshop, where nobody gives any real thought to the way the elements need to be arranged before developing the finished art.
I think Moe's caricature works well. Curly's beady little eyes are a problem. Curly was always the most popular Stooge, and I think those eyes will hinder the audience from connecting with him in the same way. Larry's eyes look a little crazy. Larry was the least crazy one. Larry always took more abuse than he dished out. HIs eyes should show some more vulnerability.
These modern day designs are ugly (and I believe intentionally so) in order to give the stooges an "edgy" feeling. In doing so, there's a lifelessness in their eyes. The actual Stooges delivered their comedy with their eye expressions as much as the physical action, accompanied with cartoon sound effects. I'm not saying the other TV versions were any better, but this latest interpretation is what is being presented to the public.
Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks that Larry's Expression and Curly's Eyes don't fit the characters. Furthermore, at least they could have used one of the old logos instead of something that was done by a mid-tier Deviant Art member.
Isn't part of the fun of the Stooges the fact that it looks like they are actually hitting each other - eye pokes, hair pulling, ladder gags and that those actions hurt? I haven't seen any of those other Stooges cartoons but is that humour lost with them being animated and not real, not capable of experiencing pain?
Take those car adds with the vehicles doing amazing flips or skids in fantastic futuristic places. Looks great, looks impressive and exciting until you realize they're all CG, and then there's no drama, nothing at stake, and then it's really not very interesting to watch.
It' something different. Not sure there's any such thing as progress in art. Just different styles.
