Deadline Hollywood reports that Brad Bird's next project is another live action film and he's still developing his own live action film, 1906. I think that we've seen the last of Bird as an animation director.
I suppose if Brad Bird wracks up a few more big live-action hits he could have the leverage to be a patron saint/exec. producer for animated films directed by others , much the same way that Tim Burton has done so much to keep Stop Motion animation alive.
Sad, so sad. Just watched The Incredibles again the other night and was marveling at his very tight direction and how there is not a dull spot in the whole thing. A masterpiece of action directing - and I guess it was inevitable that he should go to live action. The good news is that perhaps he will have a unique voice there as well! -Doug
Congrats to Brad Bird. Everyone is entitled to his/her own career without the rest of us presuming what he/she should do. For example, part of the reason that made Bob Dylan so amazing was defying what others expected him to do or be.
I don't think so. (which is another way of saying "Gee, I hope he returns to animation")

ReplyDeleteI think that's the best we can hope for, David.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say that, 1906 has been on his mind for years. It was a given he'd move onto that next.
ReplyDeleteWhhops just read 1906 is in addition to the other live action film. That's unfortunate :(
