Dumbo Part 12

There's not much to say about this sequence. The big top has fallen and Casey Jr. slinks away during a stormy night. The colour, the mournful chorus and the rain all contribute to a sequence titled "Sad Casey."

Børge Ring emailed me about Milt Neil, who was last seen in this film animating Timothy Mouse.
I asked Frank Thomas what became of the fine animator Milt Neil.- "Oh," said Frank. "He went into a Danish restaurant in Hollywood. He met the owners daughter and has not left the place ever since"

Its not really much of a sequence with just one scene!

It may not be much of a sequence, but this is a good set-up for the emotional feel of the coming scenes. The circus has been taken down a peg, as has Dumbo. Good post.

I wonder what the in-joke was that Frank Thomas was making by referring to Milt Neil as going "into a Danish restaurant in Hollywood. He met the owners daughter and has not left the place ever since".

Frank no doubt knew that after Milt Neil left Disney in 1945 that he moved to the East Coast and had his own Commercial animation/advertising business. He also taught animation at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Art.

There's a short video on Youtube about Milt Neil's career in animation , advertising, and as a teacher --

Mark,
I've noticed a mistake here, on your fine mosaic I've seen you've written "Sequence 11.2" and the draft says "Sequence 11.3" and not "11.2".
