The Cartoon Grows Up

TV Ontario ran two animated features, Perspepolis and Mary and Max, on Saturday Night at the Movies on March 17. As usual, between features, they ran interview footage relating to the films. This segment features Oscar winner Chris Landreth (Ryan), Director and animator Robin Budd (Producing Parker, Ruby Gloom) and me.

Hi, Mark. God, how I miss working with people who understand and appreciate animation's potential to explore mature, sophisticated story themes.

I did see the interviews on Saturday night. I only saw Mary and Max and really enjoyed that film. I like the fact that TVO did interview you, Robin and Chris. Kudos to all of you.

I wish I had TVO. I use to be able to get that nearly OK on my TV set from an indoor UHF bow-tie antenna from Radio Shack!

What a nice segment! Thanks for sharing, Mark! :)

There also seems to be a trend in children's books to tackle more serious subject matter these days, and in a very sophisticated way. Here's hoping these trends catch up with the North American animation industry... someday... maybe?

You were fantastic Mark. Evee and I both wish this was a weekly show.

Hi Drew. Let's hope the ratings for the films were good so that TVO runs more animation features.
