I really like this list. The only three I haven't seen are Death Breath, Les Jeux des Anges, and Street of Crocodiles, but I will make it a point to watch them soon. I like the fact that he put Starewicz's The Mascot on there because I only recently saw it and was blown away. He was really ahead of his time.

I knew he was a fan of South Park... :-) Trey and Matt appeared on a Monty Python tribute and had kidnapped Terry's mother to force him to come work for them.

The list has an incorrect date for one of the cartoons, based on Gilliam's description of it:

The list posted by the Guardian has: "Out of the Inkwell" (Dave Fleischer, US, 1938) .

But I think Gilliam means "Out of the Inkwell" in general terms referring to the various silent Koko cartoons because he mentions: "I wanted to be the animation, the clown wreaking havoc upon the world." therefore he's clearly referring to Koko the clown. However, "Out of the Inkwell" from 1938 is a Betty Boop cartoon where Koko does not appear. So I can only conclude that he meant "Out of the Inkwell" to refer to the entire series , not a particular title. Someone else working for the Guardian probably attached the erroneous 1938 date because when they did a search for the title "Out of the Inkwell" they found the Boop cartoon by that name from 1938, but didn't bother to actually watch it to see if there was "a clown wreaking havoc" in it.

Oddly enough, "South Park" creators were heavily influenced by Monty Python...
