Your comments about the collie aren't very surprising. It's not only weak animation, the collie's just not a very pleasing design at all. It's ugly and out of place. No fun to it like all of the other characters (animal and human).
Re: the collie-"ugly" is going a bit far. It definitely could have been better and it is a missed opportunity though.
I have the DVD and it still isn't out of the shrink wrap(been that kind of year)...but looking at these mosaics I can hear the dialogue and imagine the scenes as if I just saw it-and it's been quite a while. This is one solid, memorable film.
